This might be the one
you've waited for. A true "falling block", lever actuated
design by Barnes. Cartridge breech loading ... meaning the slug
is contained in a cartridge like casing. The breech is opened
by using the trigger guard lever to lower the breech block. The
cartridge, containing the slug, is then placed in the rear loading
channel (just as you'd expect), and pushed home. The block is
then levered up behind the cartridge to close the breech.
Just to answer a question
which I suspect everyone will ask ... no ... the cartridge does
NOT contain the compressed air used to fire the rifle. The rifle
uses an under barrel reservoir tube. And, naturally, the cartridge
does NOT contain any other propellant or explosive. This is pre-charged
pneumatic rifle. The cartridge is hand loaded with each new slug.
Additional brass or steel cartridges may be ordered to facilitate
multiple quicker loads.
Predator Class will
be available with 32, 45, or 57 caliber Barnes handmade barrels.
They will be a top drawer model with no current plans to list
options. Each Predator will be fully dressed. Stocks will be fine
quality American Walnut with very good character. The metal will
be hot salt blued steel and polished aircraft aluminum. Trigger
blades are solid brass with tool steel lever components - two
stage target grade. Everyone has special ideas and needs regarding
sights. As a default, I'll dovetail the top of the receiver. Other
systems may be discussed. Actually - this might be the one for
that long brass sniper scope you've always wanted!
It is anticipated that
Predator Class rifles will achieve approx. 250fpe in 32 caliber,
500+ fpe in 45 caliber, and approx. 650+ fpe in 57 caliber. Clearly,
these are hunting rifles which will also be at home at the shooting
range.
Because of the traditional
lead time required for my work, I am introducing these rifles
today ( 2-15-03 - 11pm ). What you see above is an exact scale
drawing made from the completed engineering diagrams. The rifle
does not currently exist. For those of you new to Barnes Pneumatic,
this is also the way I introduced the Savannah Class and the Tundra
Class of rifles.
I have a wealth of
ideas on a regular basis. In this manner, I allow you to gain
a jump on the waiting time. There's no point in making you wait
until I prototype the rifle before allowing you to enter the ledger
for this new model.
To some, this practice
will seem the height of conceit on my part. To the initiated,
you will know that I'll do what I say I'll do, and have operated
my business in this manner for 29 years. Please ask around.
Current lead time remains
@ 36 months. To simplify the process at this time (meaning prior
to prototyping, establishing cost grids, documenting range sessions,
etc.), I am offering an "Early Bird Special." This is
an initial 5 (new) ledger spots for the Predator Class
@ a flat rate of $5,200US. Details: $500 ledger entry down payment
with $135/mo. per 35 remaining months until delivery. Please see
Business with Barnes
- The Program. You
are guaranteed that this initial offer will be below final established
retail on this model, in the dress provided. Please note:
these are intended to be "New" ledger entries for 36
mo. del. ... this offer is not intended to switch around existing
orders which have already been planned, timed, and/or started.
I'm straining now to fit in all of the projects which have been
upgraded since entering the ledger. There is one current client
which is entering the build phase at this time. He may choose
a Predator, if he so chooses, and has been notified of such.
I make this as easy
as I possibly can. I can't whip up a batch of rifles quickly.
I can, however; give you as much lead time as possible. I do offer
my payment program at no interest with a minimum down. I do lock
in the price upon receipt of your down payment. Some have considered
their ledger entry as a small "investment account".
It will mature in 36 months and you will either have a fine Barnes
PCP or an artifact in high demand.
