I think it just seems
like alot of work cause .... it's such alot of work! ;?)
We're almost there
now ...
Here's a few earlier
pics of where we've been ...
Functional action in
it's roughed out stock ... barrel to be shrouded ... that's the
reason for the apparent oversized gap between barrel and reservoir
tube ...
Saw Cut thru blank
... remember our discussions about figured wood? ... This is one
end of the groove ...
And here's the other
end of the groove - a minute or two after making the cut? You
think there's any inherent stress in these quality figured blanks?
This one has been in the shop for several months - it's completely
seasoned and extremely high quality - this is typical figured
wood internal stress.
The undersized groove
goes in and the wood is left to normalize again. Rough end cap
and pistol butt cap are glued on.
Marble pattern walnut
cap and dark red pinstripe fiber - glued on - cured - roughed
out.
Cap groove milled out
and groove widened and deepened. More set aside time for normalizing
after that ...
Lots of wood removal
...
Note the tiger stripe
figure?
We're on the case.
The rifle barrel gets a big 'ole shroud unit. That's the reason
for the apparent height of the receiver. Billet receiver gets
a weight reduction milling yet.
I've run the action
up into the high 400's of fpe. A few more parts and we'll do the
range testing prior to cosmetic completion.
