Keep in mind: this
Delta 32 Magnum can be turned down - the 32 Delta can't be turned
up .... (the machinery must be designed and built in up front).
I tell folks to buy
the power version that they'll actually use. The Magnum has the
most versatility "if" you think you will use the feature.
You may not need it, in which case, the 32 Delta is lighter and
less costly.
The Specs.
Prior to shipping this
Shrouded Delta 32 Magnum, I ran a few additional tests. I've just
ran across the documentation in the shop journals the other day,
while answering a customer's questions. Thought you may be interested.
This rifle was equipped
with a simple power adjust system. I turned it way down and recorded
the following:
2,800 psi fill, lightest
spring setting, 61.2 grain Hornets (unsized - as cast).
I then fired 16 shots
between 890 and 965 fps
That's an average of
927.5 fps or 116.9 fpe
I ran a total of 19
shots. At the end, 1,100 psi remained.
Now - that's an extreme
long run (with 75 fps variation total). You pick the tightest
segment of the plateau for the longest range target work. The
sweet spot of the plateau will be very closely metered and consistent.
However: Everyone is always asking me "how many shots?"
and they are usually pretty sure they "need" just one
more. So, here's what's possible. Now, if you are shooting out
to maybe 40 yards, you could use all of these. You won't notice
the velocity change very much. That's a 1,700 psi reservoir drop
and displays excellent big bore metering. The sweet spot of the
curve will show about 10 very tight velocity numbers within about
10-15 fps.
Turned up on full power,
the rifle delivered about 8 tight shots with 102 grain Bishops
for about 875 fps for 173.4 fpe. It also delivered 5-7 hot shots
with 70.6 grain Falcons @ approx. 950 fps for 141.5 fpe. Max power
was recorded in open barrel form with the 115 grain pepper grinder
slug @ 890 fps for 202.3 fpe.
Supersonic velocities
(1113 fps) with simple round ball, were achieved even with very
little spring.
At the Range 3-12-02
First time outside
the shop for the Ranger Delta.

As you recall ... this
rifle is headed South. I had this green marker in my shirt pocket
... well ....
That's 3 @ 50 yards,
early in the session.

Doing well @ 80 yards
with Barnes 70.6 grain Falcons

It was going well,
so I reached out to 100 yards with the Falcons today. As I say,
this "Delta" Class was just completed last evening.
The first range session was today. You get the news here while
it's fresh.
